The Chamber Welcomes You

To Our Town

Blessed with a rich and varied history, Crawfordsville and Montgomery County, located on the banks of Sugar Creek, offer visitors and residents alike a true feel of midwestern life.

Crawfordsville, the county seat has consistently appeared in rankings of the 100 Best Small Towns in America. Known as “the Athens of Indiana” since the early 1900’s for its culture, progressiveness, and abundance of nationally known writers, Crawfordsville today still embodies many of these same qualities. Two of our most treasured cultural amenities are the Lew Wallace Study, where the famed Civil War General wrote the novel Ben-Hur; and Wabash College, an all-male private liberal arts college founded in 1832.

In addition to our cultural heritage, Montgomery County is well positioned geographically, between the metropolitan areas of Lafayette and Indianapolis, to continue enjoying economic prosperity.

Our local economy is quite diverse, ranging from agriculture to large-scale industrial manufacturers. The retail scene offers something for everyone with nationally recognized merchants, as well as one-of-a-kind niche retailers. Crawfordsville’s still vibrant downtown business district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places,is currently in the midst of a revitalization supported by Crawfordsville Main Street, which promises to make our downtown truly unique with many more specialty businesses.

What We've Been Up To

2015 Downtown/ County Putt Putt Contest

Ahhhhhh………you know spring is around the corner when Crawfordsville/Montgomery County is transformed into a giant putting course.  For the last few weeks in February, participants can test their putting skills on a variety of cleverly crafted putting holes set up inside chamber member businesses and organizations.  Each host venue will have an opportunity to name their own putting hole using themes or items from their business or organization.  It’s easy to play.  The host venues will be provided with scorecards.  Participants can play at their own leisure during the venues open hours beginning on Wednesday, February 11 and closing on Saturday, February 28.  Players who complete all 18 holes are then eligible for a drawing to win $100 in Chamber Buck$.  Each host will validate the scorecard.  The winning overall score will be eligible for $250 in Chamber Buck$.  Should a tie result there will be a drawing for that prize.  This event is sponsored by the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, free and open to all ages.  Putters and balls will be provided at each location. Here are some of the basic questions and answers.
Q.  What are the dates of the event?
A.  Wednesday February 11-Saturday February 28-during regular venue hours.  Your scorecard will contain a list of regular hours for each participating location.
Q.  Are there any restrictions on who can play?
A.  This is a FREE event open to all ages for the purpose of visiting our good, chamber members
Q.  Where do I get a scorecard?
A.  They will be available at each of the 18 venues.  Once all hosts are secured an alphabetical list will be published on the website as well as our local papers.
Q.  How is the game played?
A.  Visit any putting hole listed on the scorecard during regular hours. Each location will have created their own unique putting hole for you to play.  Once you have played the hole and written down your score, have the host initial or stamp your scorecard.  You may begin and end with any hole location on the scorecard except the 18th.  You do not have to play them in order.
Q.  Do I need to bring my own ball and putter?
A.   No, each location will provide you with a “putter” and a “ball” to play the hole, but you may bring your own if you choose.
Q.  Once I have completed the course, what do I do with my scorecard?
A.  Those that complete the course must finish the 18th hole at the Chamber office on the 3rd floor of Chase Bank.  Scorecards will be turned in at that location.  All information must be completed on the scorecard plus voting for the most creative hole on the course.
Q.  How are the prize winners selected?
A.  Everyone who completes all 18 holes will be eligible for a Chamber Buck$ prize of $100.  A grand prize of $250 will be awarded to the best score.  Should a tie result, a drawing will be held for that prize.  There will be an awards ceremony held later at a Chamber”After Hours Event.”
